In the 1980s, renowned harmonica player Clayber de Souza devised an instrument that would facilitate the beginning of studies in chromatic mouth harmonica: the Hering Special 24. Initially launched as Master Solo, it evolved into the model we know today, offering beginners a simple and intuitive way to explore the world of music.
Unlike traditional diatonic mouth harmonicas with Richter tuning, the Hering Special 24 offers three full octaves in C major, with the first note referenced to middle C on the piano. This means that, unlike other diatonic mouth harmonics, whose octaves may be incomplete, this model provides all the notes of the C major scale without the presence of sharps (#) or flats (b). This simplicity makes the instrument an excellent gateway for those who want to familiarize themselves with chromatics, but without the additional complexity of musical accidents.
